Chapter 699 Don't you have a name?

Chapter 699 Don't you have a name?

Amidst the villagers' astonished and uncertain gazes, Zhang Hai, carrying the long-haired woman, vanished in a flash. He left no trace, as if he had never been there at all.

After leaving the village, Zhang Hai sped with the long-haired woman to a secluded lakeside. He put her down and looked at her pale, desperate face.

"Don't you have a name?" Zhang Hai asked.

The woman shook her head.

Zhang Hai pondered for a moment, then said, "In that case, I'll give you a name. From now on, your name will be... Bai."

"Bai?" the woman murmured the name, a hint of confusion flashing in her eyes.

“That’s right, it’s Bai.” Zhang Hai looked at her. “Your Ice Release bloodline limit is very fitting for the word ‘Bai.’ I hope you can be as pure and powerful as ice and snow.”

Bai didn't say anything more, but silently accepted the name.

Zhang Hai knew that Bai was deeply traumatized and needed time to recover. But he had no time to wait. He had to get to Wuyin Village as soon as possible to find the whereabouts of the S-rank intelligence.

He summoned the eagle puppet again, and with Bai in tow, sped off towards the direction of the Hidden Mist Village.

As they drew closer to Kirigakure, the surrounding environment grew increasingly desolate. The fog thickened, reducing visibility. Unburied skeletons lay scattered along the roadside, eroded by wind and sand, their remains appearing particularly forlorn. These skeletons belonged to ninjas and civilians who perished in Kirigakure's civil war.

"This is Kirigakure..." Bai said softly, a complex emotion in his eyes.

Zhang Hai remained silent, observing his surroundings in quiet contemplation. He could sense a thick stench of blood and the aura of death permeating the air.

As they were about to enter the village of Kirigakure, two ninjas dressed in Kirigakure ninja uniforms suddenly appeared in front of them and blocked their way.

"Halt! Who are you?!" one of the ninjas shouted sharply, his eyes filled with vigilance.

Zhang Hai, wearing a mask, remained silent. He knew that Kirigakure was always heavily guarded against outsiders, and trying to slip through undetected would be no easy feat.

"Unbutton your robes and submit to our inspection!" another ninja said coldly.

Zhang Hai's heart sank. He knew that once he took off his robe, his identity as an Anbu member would be exposed. Moreover, his goal was to infiltrate Kirigakure, not to clash with the Kirigakure ninja.

However, just as Zhang Hai was pondering a solution, Bai suddenly made a move.

Her body flashed like a ghost, and before the two Hidden Mist ninjas could react, two slender ice needles had already formed in her hands.

"Whizzing!"

Two soft whooshing sounds rang out as the ice needles, like lightning, pierced the throats of two Hidden Mist ninjas. Without uttering a sound, the two ninjas clutched their necks, their eyes wide, and collapsed limply to the ground. Their blood stained the ground, a stark contrast against the thick fog.

Zhang Hai watched Bai's decisive and ruthless attack, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes. He hadn't expected that Bai, in her state of utter despair, could still unleash such formidable fighting power. Her Ice Release bloodline limit was indeed extremely powerful.

Haku ignored the two Hidden Mist ninjas lying on the ground; she simply stood there quietly, her eyes devoid of any emotion.

Zhang Hai didn't say much. He just glanced at the fallen ninja, then turned around and said to Bai, "Let's go."

Bai nodded and followed behind Zhang Hai. Ignoring the fallen ninja, the two walked straight into Kirigakure. They knew that this operation was now inevitably going to involve conflict with the Kirigakure ninja. But to retrieve the S-rank intelligence, and for their teacher, Bai Fang, they had no other choice.

"Why did you kill them?" Bai asked softly, a hint of doubt in her voice. She didn't understand why Zhang Hai, who could have avoided the conflict, would make her do it.

Zhang Hai didn't turn around, but simply said, "We're infiltrating, not sightseeing. Their presence will expose our whereabouts." He knew that although Bai's ice release was powerful, she lacked experience in infiltration missions and didn't have the resolve to kill without hesitation for the sake of a mission. He needed to make her understand that the world of ninjas was not child's play.

Bai fell silent. Looking at Zhang Hai's cold, retreating figure, a complex emotion welled up within her. She couldn't understand why this man could be so ruthless, yet save her at the crucial moment.

However, not long after Zhang Hai and Bai ventured deeper into Kirigakure, a series of hurried footsteps echoed from the village entrance. Several Kirigakure ninja discovered their fallen comrade, examining the wounds on the body with expressions of anger and shock.

"It's Ice Release! This kind of wound... it's the remnant of the Ice Release clan!" a Kirigakure ninja exclaimed, his eyes filled with hatred.

"Quick! Notify the Anbu immediately! Remnants of the Ice Release clan have infiltrated the village!" another ninja roared.

Soon, alarms sounded throughout Kirigakure, shattering the village's tranquility.

Upon hearing the alarm, Zhang Hai knew their location had been discovered. He remained calm, his gaze darkening slightly as he quickened his pace.

However, the Hidden Mist Village's ANBU reacted extremely quickly. Just a few minutes later, ten Hidden Mist Village ANBU ninjas dressed in black uniforms and wearing animal masks appeared like ghosts behind Zhang Hai and Bai, surrounding them completely.

"Remnants of the Ice Release clan! Surrender!" a dark force captain shouted coldly.

Zhang Hai stopped and turned around to look at the ten Hidden Mist Anbu members who had surrounded them. They emanated powerful chakra fluctuations, clearly indicating they were elite ninjas.

"Bai, stay where you are and don't move," Zhang Hai said in a deep voice, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Bai listened and stood obediently in place, offering no resistance. She knew that Zhang Hai's strength far surpassed her own, and she only needed to follow orders.

Zhang Hai slowly reached out and grasped the katana at his waist. A cold killing intent flashed in his eyes.

"Since you're courting death, don't blame me," Zhang Hai said calmly.

Before he finished speaking, his body shot out like lightning. He didn't use any complicated ninjutsu, relying solely on swordsmanship.

"Sword Drawing Technique!"

"Qiang!"

The sound of the blade being drawn was like a dragon's roar, and a silver flash streaked through the thick fog. Zhang Hai's figure moved swiftly among the ten members of the Dark Guard, as fast as a ghost. His swordsmanship was sharp and precise, each strike aimed directly at a vital point.

"Puff puff!"

A flash of light, and blood splattered. The ten ANBU ninjas didn't even have time to react before they collapsed to the ground. Their throats had been precisely severed, and their blood stained the ground crimson.
