Chapter 887 - 884: Finally Waited for You (9)
The elevator descends to the basement. After a soft chime, the elevator doors open. Kris Cooper steps out, glancing down the corridors on both sides, and frowns slightly."Where’s my basement?"
He has only lived in this place a few times, so naturally, he’s never been to the basement.
"This way!"
Luckily, the Property Manager is familiar with the layout and immediately leads the way.
Just after passing a section of the corridor, Kris Cooper vaguely picks up some sound.
"Wait!"
Raising his hand to signal everyone to stop, he turns his head slightly, listening closely.
Indeed, this time the sound is very clear, like a knocking sound coming from somewhere.
His heart tightens, and he shoves the Property Manager aside, striding quickly toward the source of the sound. The closer he gets, the clearer the sound becomes, with faint traces of a hoarse voice.
"I want to go home... go home..."
Hearing that familiar voice, Kris Cooper’s heart leaps with joy and he immediately rushes to the door.
"Grandma, is that you?"
"Go home, I want to go home..."
From inside the door, Grandma Wave’s voice comes through.
"Are you hurt?" Kris Cooper calls loudly through the door, "Grandma, it’s Kris Cooper, can you hear me?"
"Kris Cooper?" Grandma Wave’s voice takes on a tone of delight. "Quick, open the door, take me home."
"Okay." Kris Cooper smiles with joy, "I’ll take you home right away. Quick, open the door!"
He steps aside as the locksmith approaches, taking out tools to open the door. But upon a glance, the locksmith frowns.
"Sir, this... it can’t be opened!"
"What’s going on?" Kris Cooper asks in puzzlement.
"The keyhole is blocked," the locksmith points to the keyhole. Kris Cooper leans in to look and sure enough, something shiny is filling the lock, completely sealing the keyhole.
The Property Manager also leans in to inspect, wiping his hand on the door, "This... looks like nail polish!"
"Irene Spencer!"
Kris Cooper grits his teeth and curses softly.
It’s bad enough to lock an elderly person in here, but to use nail polish to block the keyhole—this woman is truly beyond salvation.
"Is there no other way?" He turns to the locksmith and asks.
"I’ll go back and get other tools to try, these current tools definitely won’t work," the locksmith replies.
"Move aside!" Kris Cooper pushes him away and moves closer to the door, "Grandma, can you hear me?"
"I can hear you."
He softens his tone, "Now listen to me, step back, move as far away from the door as possible, okay?"
"Kris, I want to go home, I want to see Vera."
Inside the door, Grandma Wave’s voice clearly carries irritation. Being locked inside for an entire day, in a dark and damp room, would be unbearable for anyone, let alone her.
Kris Cooper patiently and gently persuades, "Listen to me, step back until you’re by the wall, then I can kick the door open and take you to see Vera right away, okay?"
"Okay."
Hearing his voice calms Grandma Wave somewhat, and she gropes her way back until she reaches the wall.
"Grandma, are you ready?"
"I’m ready."
"Where are you?"
"By the wall."
"Cover your ears with your hands and don’t be scared, I’m going to kick the door now."
"Okay!"
"Grandma, you’re so brave!"
Reassuring her with a word, he steps back two steps and kicks the wooden door heavily. The door shakes, emitting a faint sound of breaking wood.
