Chapter 26 People of the Same Kind
Chapter 26 People of the Same Kind
The clown's pale face was reflected in the glass, his scarlet lips looking ferocious and terrifying.
Looking out through the glass, he always felt that something was missing.
"Perhaps I should go upstairs and take a look."
The clown muttered something to himself and quickly reached the top of the Previtt Building.
Overlooking the brightly lit Gotham City and the two cruise ships quietly moored in the middle of the river, the Joker felt a great sense of accomplishment.
"Oh, that's the feeling, it's just..."
Before the words "How wonderful!" could even be uttered, a black figure suddenly descended from the sky.
He kicked the clown in the chin, sending the rest of his words flying back into his stomach.
Batman looked at the Joker, whom he had kicked to the ground, and felt a surge of emotions.
He had initially been somewhat skeptical of Li Wei's analysis, since the guy seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.
So on his way there, he contacted Lucius Fox, hoping he could help him.
—I heard that Lucius, inspired by bats, has developed a new sonar technology.
It is possible to hack into everyone's mobile phone and monitor all surrounding sounds in real time.
In other words, as long as he has the target's voiceprint information, he can locate anyone directly in Gotham.
However, to his surprise, Lucius rejected him outright and gave him a long speech about how "technology cannot cross moral boundaries".
Fortunately, following Li Wei's guidance, he found the clown immediately.
Give me the stuff!
Batman coldly stared at the Joker lying on the rooftop and ordered him to hand over the detonator.
He didn't think the Joker would put a real detonator on the boat.
"Thing? Are you a detonator, Mr. Batman?"
It took the Joker a few seconds to realize that Batman wanted the detonator. "Batman, you've really disappointed me."
"If it were Mr. Li Wei standing in front of me, he would never have asked such a question."
After speaking, the Joker looked up at Batman, the man he considered Gotham's only nemesis, but he felt...
He found it rather dull, and instead thought of Li Wei.
"What exactly do you mean by this?!"
The Joker's words enraged Batman, who had no faith in the people on the ship's conscience.
Keep in mind that this is Gotham, and one of the ships was full of the most vicious criminals!
Batman lifted his foot and walked towards the Joker, intending to teach the Joker a lesson.
Anyway, let's teach this guy a lesson first.
During the police interrogation, he discovered that if the beating was severe enough, the guy would still be afraid.
With his mind preoccupied with other matters and recalling the Joker's previous performance, Batman lowered his guard.
As he bent down to pick up the clown, he didn't notice at all that the clown was holding a black steel pipe.
"You'll find a way."
As Batman spoke, he reached out to grab the Joker.
"Yes, I'll find a way!"
After saying that, the Joker grabbed the steel pipe and slapped it on Batman's chest unexpectedly, then kicked him in the stomach.
Batman was genuinely ambushed by the Joker, staggered back a few steps, and fell backward onto the edge of the rooftop.
The Joker kicked away the obstructing steel frame and grabbed a steel pipe, pressing it firmly against Batman's neck.
Looking at Batman pinned to the ground, the Joker spoke in a calm yet expectant tone.
"Let's really stop fighting, or we'll miss the fireworks."
Batman struggled to lift his head and said, enunciating each word clearly, "There won't be any fireworks!"
"Oh, let's see then."
After the clown finished speaking, he looked expectantly towards the center of the river.
Just then, the door on the rooftop suddenly opened, and Li Wei rushed up.
He had already arrived downstairs, but for safety reasons, he chose to climb the stairs.
He took a deep breath and looked at Batman, Gotham's rich and dissolute number one playboy, who was being straddled and pinned down by the Joker, as if he was about to be forced into a sexual relationship.
Li Wei was taken aback. "I'm sorry, it seems I've disturbed you."
Li Wei's words startled the two people on the edge of the rooftop. The clown turned his head and suddenly perked up when he saw the embarrassed Li Wei.
"Mr. Li Wei, you've finally arrived, though a little later than I expected."
The clown grinned crimson at him, "So, Mr. Levi, you're here to stop me too?"
Looking at the Joker, whose fighting prowess had been unlocked, Levi smiled and said, "I don't think I can stop you."
Li Wei's words caused the clown's expression to freeze, and his smile gradually disappeared.
"However," Li Wei changed the subject, "I believe the people on the ship will stop you with their actions."
After he said this, Li Wei noticed that the clown's previously dimmed eyes brightened again.
Reaching into his pocket and wiping the sweat from his palms, Li Wei couldn't help but marvel at how crazy this guy really was.
"Mr. Levi, do you mean that the people on the ship—the civilians of Gotham City and the notorious prisoners—will ultimately not detonate the bomb?"
The clown looked at Li Wei with a very happy smile, like a gambler at a gambling table who had finally met his match.
"Of course, I think they will make the right choice, and your theory is wrong."
When he said those words, Li Wei felt his heart beat faster.
Looking at Batman pinned to the ground, Li Wei didn't know what to say.
This guy really thought he was being pinned against the wall by Barbara.
Batman lay on the ground, listening to the conversation between Levi and the Joker, his heart filled with turbulent emotions.
He never expected that Li Wei could actually communicate with the Joker.
In his mind, the Joker was a madman who couldn't be understood using normal thinking.
These two guys can chat together, so they probably both have some mental issues.
"Mr. Levi, how about we make a bet? If you lose..."
The clown raised his head, a crimson smile spreading across his face, and grinned at Levi. "If you lose, join me. We're kindred spirits; working together will definitely be a pleasure."
After the clown finished speaking, he licked his scarlet lips.
"No, Li Wei, you can't trust this guy..."
Batman had barely opened his mouth when the Joker punched him in the face.
"Damn it, don't interrupt my conversation with Mr. Levi!"
The Joker held Batman down tightly, his eyes filled with rage. "You're not my primary target anymore. Don't force me to kill you!"
Watching Batman being pinned to the ground by the Joker, Li Wei silently mourned for the poor guy for two seconds.
However, if he were to face the Joker with his fighting skills, he would probably be killed instantly.
Levi glanced helplessly at Batman, then met the Joker's expectant gaze.
"Mr. Clown, I think you should calm down."
Li Wei stopped the Joker from continuing his rampage against Batman, signaling him to calm down. "I accept your bet. If I lose, I'll join your gang..."
"If you lose, I want you to hand over the detonator."
"A detonator? Everything you're talking about is on the ship... I don't have any detonators..."
The clown wanted to continue denying it, but when he met Li Wei's determined gaze, a helpless smile tugged at the corners of his scarlet lips.
"Alright, Mr. Levi, we are indeed the same kind of people. If I lose, I will hand over the detonator."
So let's wait and see what happens next!
