Chapter 154 Giving Gifts 2
Chapter 154 Giving Gifts 2
Sun Zhengqi and Li Tao first put the grapes in the trunk. Luckily, they had driven today, otherwise carrying these large bunches of grapes would have been quite tiring.
They put the grapes in the car, and then the two of them went to buy gift boxes.
Li Tao, picking out the packages, said, "Now that we have these grapes, we can just add some tea. There's no need to send anything else."
“I think it’s a good idea. If we take those grapes over, Old Wang will definitely be happy to eat them.”
Sun Zhengqi was also very excited, and he felt that the visit tomorrow should go smoothly.
……
The next morning, Sun Zhengqi drove to Wang Lao's building and carried the prepared gifts upstairs.
After nervously ringing the doorbell, the door opened, and an old lady greeted him warmly, "Oh, isn't this Xiao Sun? What brings you here today? Come in, come in!"
"Haha, hello grandma. I've come to visit you both today. This is some fruit and tea I bought. The shopkeeper said the grapes can help with sleep. They're nothing expensive, please accept them."
Sun Zhengqi followed him in and placed the gift on the living room table.
"Oh my, look at you, you came all this way and brought so much stuff."
Mrs. Wang accepted the gift with a smile, then asked him to sit down, saying, "You sit here and chat with Old Wang. I'll go check on things in the kitchen and then stay for dinner later."
"Oh, you don't need to bother, I'll just sit here for a while."
Sun Zhengqi smiled and replied a few words, then sat down and tentatively asked Old Wang, who was reading a book.
"Old Wang?"
"Hmm," Old Wang looked up from his book and nodded slightly.
Sun Zhengqi immediately tensed up, "How has Old Wang been doing lately?"
Old Wang picked up his teacup and took a slow sip. "Not bad. How's your work been going lately?"
Upon hearing this, Sun Zhengqi knew that the old man was perfectly clear-headed.
My heart skipped a beat. "Work-related matters are just so-so."
Seeing his expression, Old Wang smiled faintly. "Little Sun, I know why you've come this time, but it's a bit complicated, and I can't give you an answer yet."
Sun Zhengqi felt even more disheartened after hearing this, realizing that the matter was very likely to fail.
However, he couldn't show anything, so he forced a smile and said, "Mr. Wang, you're too kind. Your consideration is already a great help."
"Hmm," Old Wang said, taking another sip of tea.
After chatting with him about other random things, Sun Zhengqi finally understood what Old Wang meant: he was telling him to go back and wait for further instructions.
He stood up regretfully. "I'm sorry to have bothered you, Mr. Wang. I'll head back now. Please contact me if you need anything later."
"Okay, take care."
"Hmm," Sun Zhengqi said heavily as he left.
Madam Wang came out from inside and saw that no one was in the living room. "They're leaving already? We should have invited them to stay for a meal, since they brought some things."
Old Wang shook his head, "You can send some other things back later."
Madam Wang suddenly understood. "What's wrong? Is this matter difficult to handle?"
Old Wang would only tell him not to accept gifts or to return gifts when he didn't want to do something.
Old Wang shook his head, "I'm getting old, I don't really want to get involved in these things."
Actually, it was just something he mentioned casually, but now that he's old, he just wants a peaceful life and doesn't want to deal with these things. He also has trouble sleeping, so it's best not to bother him too much.
"Alright then, I'll think of a way to return the favor later."
Madam Wang nodded, and then began to pack the things she had brought.
"Here, this is your favorite tea. I put a lot of thought into it."
"Oh, these grapes are great! They're so big and look delicious. Let me wash a plate for you to eat."
Old Wang glanced at it and said, "Just a little bit, I'll just have the two of us try it, and the rest I'll send to the children. As we get older, fruit is cooling in nature, and eating too much isn't good for us."
"Okay," Madam Wang said, and then went to wash the grapes.
After washing them, I took them out and put them on the table, handed them to Old Wang, and took one for myself.
The two elderly people took a bite, thinking that such a big grape would be easy to eat and spit out the seeds.
To their surprise, the sweet taste immediately took their notice.
Old Wang couldn't help but exclaim, "Wow, these grapes are so delicious!"
Mrs. Wang nodded, "Yes, there's no trademark written on it. It was probably bought from some imported supermarket. It tastes so good. Young Sun is really good at getting things done."
"Hmm, they really get things done well." Old Wang hesitated as he ate the grapes in his mouth. Such good grapes were given away so much so easily, it seemed like the matter could be resolved with their help.
However, he only thought about it; the idea flashed through his mind, but he didn't actually take any concrete action.
He and his wife ate grapes with satisfaction, and the two elderly people finished the whole bunch in one go.
Madam Wang felt quite full and couldn't help but glance at the remaining grapes, but in the end she shook her head.
Seeing that Old Wang was about to reach for it, they slapped his hand away.
“You were just saying that eating too many grapes is bad. We’re getting old now, and our digestion isn’t as good. I’ll put them in the fridge and we can eat a little each day.”
"Alright, alright," Old Wang said regretfully as he watched Mrs. Wang put the grapes into the refrigerator.
These grapes are really delicious; he was indeed quite craving them.
By evening, having eaten such a large bunch of grapes, Old Wang didn't feel very hungry. He ate a little something and went back to his room to rest.
Both he and his wife sleep very little these days, especially him. He's lucky if he can sleep for two or three hours a night. So when he got back to his room, he didn't think about sleeping. He just picked up a book and decided to read it.
But I didn't expect that after reading it for a while, my eyelids would feel heavy, and I eventually closed my eyes and fell asleep.
Mrs. Wang, who was standing nearby, was surprised and gently called out, "Old Wang." When she heard no response, she knew that he was really asleep.
"That's really strange, why did I go to bed so early today? But I'm sleepy now."
Finally, she took the book down, covered the other person with the blanket, and then lay down on the bed and fell into a deep sleep.
The two slept peacefully until dawn. When it was fully light, the housekeeper who cooked at home wanted to wake the two elderly people up for breakfast, and that's when Mr. Wang woke up.
When I woke up, I was surprised. "Don't I remember reading a book last night?"
Madam Wang shook her head. "What are you reading? You fell asleep as soon as you picked up a book yesterday. I put it next to you and then went to sleep."
Mr. Wang was surprised: "I fell asleep at just past nine o'clock yesterday and have been sleeping ever since. I've slept for nearly ten hours. It's been so long since I've slept for that long."
"Not yet, it's strange, I haven't slept this soundly in a long time."
Old Wang found it strange, "I didn't do anything yesterday, I didn't take any medicine, and I even ate a lot of grapes."
Madam Wang, however, realized what was happening. "Oh, yesterday Xiao Sun told me that these grapes have sleep-aiding properties. Could this be it?"
Old Wang was startled. If it really was the grapes' medicinal properties...
