Chapter 390 Discovery
After the probe landed on the "water sphere" for the first time, it immediately deployed its water propulsion system—exploding a large number of floating airbags and using electric propulsion to navigate on the water.
After a delay of nearly five minutes, the ship in synchronous orbit around Aix issued an order to activate all its scientific instruments and begin measuring the water sphere they had looked up to since ancient times.
It should be said that after the first radio telescope and the first astronomical research institution were established on Aix, the humans on Aix began to study this blue planet.
From the outside, this satellite, which is 2798 kilometers in diameter and has about 90% of its surface covered by ocean, has a nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere. Its unique surface environment has created a violent climate and cloud formations. It is filled with hurricanes, torrential rains and lightning, which makes its water cycle particularly intense. The frequent storms also make its already scarce land less habitable.
However, from various perspectives, although this planet is harsh for the human species, it is not entirely uninhabitable. Ten thousand years ago, humans established several colonies here and extracted a large amount of valuable resources for the Aix-en-Provence administrative system, mainly deep-sea fish, natural gas, methane hydrate, and oil.
These numerous large colonial cities and their inhabitants are the ancestors of various human subspecies that now live in shallow seas, reefs, and islands, similar to the native planet of Aix.
The first piece of information about human civilization on Aix-en-Provence that the Friendship sent to the civilization was about a city built on a new Maldives atoll—even though part of it was underwater, the Friendship's cameras could still catch a glimpse of part of the city.
"Your Excellency President, a strange thing has appeared on our country's border waters!"
The border guard who first spotted the "Friendly One" ran from the border to the barracks to report to his officer, who looked at the huge orange object (the orange deceleration parachute) and then sounded the ultrasonic alarm. Subsequently, a messenger piloted a ship towards the massive, supposedly 10,000-year-old building that symbolized the United States.
If a human from another planet saw a map of the United States, they would surely frown. From the distance between border towns to the capital, and the total population, this self-proclaimed "most powerful nation" was only the size of a small regional country on Aix, or even equivalent to the 12-nautical-mile territorial sea boundary of a coastal country on Aix.
Its total population is comparable to that of the capital city of Amelia, De la Leyé, at only 2349 million.
However, this is the norm on Blue Moon. These "fishmen" are not, in the final analysis, advanced forms of marine life, but rather forms that have evolved from land-dwelling humans. Some of them are the result of "adaptive evolution" projects undertaken by humans in the era of advanced gene editing technology, while others are the creations of scientists who survived that war.
But times have changed. The rapid decline of society, technology, culture, and the collapse of pre-civilizational architecture ultimately led most of the Blue Moon people to regress to a primitive society. The more evolved Blue Moon people were able to establish their societies in shallow waters and on reefs, sheltering from storms in the shallows. The less evolved Blue Moon people hid in caves on the islands, relying on engineering tools brought out by survivors of that war, including automated mining equipment, pickaxes, and shovels, to build a network of caves sufficient to protect them from storms.
As time passed, the Blue Moon people forgot their glory of ten thousand years ago. The automated equipment that was once rescued was damaged and abandoned over the long years. Some sank to the bottom of the sea, while others became sacrificial objects for the tribe, building up the earliest worship culture and rituals of primitive society.
The Blue Moon people, who split into two forms, initially shared common understandings, and their society and culture were relatively consistent. However, the war of foreign invasion not only remained in the past but also destroyed their future.
What the "Friends" see as they sail on the sea is a city of the Blue Moon people. On the city's frontier, walls built of wooden stakes can keep out larger marine invaders.
"Stop! Stop! This is the sacred waters of the United States!"
A soldier roared in their language; the human vocal organs still dominate the language of the Sea Moon people, unlike their Siren cousins who can communicate underwater.
The half of its body above the water warily watched the strange object before it. This strange object, with its fish-scale-like reflective surface and some orange appendages, resembled a tropical fish resting on coral.
But it is clear that it cannot understand what they are saying. From all perspectives, the differentiation of languages is the most conceivable. On Aix, the birth of the common language is a product of the previous civilization and an evolution of so-called "English".
Here, changes in the vocal organs and the living environment also affect language—at least for now, the crew of the "Dark Star" research vessel have no idea what the creature in front of them, which is likely human, is expressing.
However, long ago, when a series of extrasolar probes launched by the United Nations to explore space were received by extraterrestrials, they had already demonstrated how to communicate with them.
The Friendship carried a bronze-plated record similar to that on Voyager 1. Just as our ancestors did, this record contained information about humanity, and in addition to language, it was engraved with the logo of the United Nations of the Earth and a greeting from Alice de la Leah.
"Greetings. Whether you are human or any other being, this object tells you one thing—it is a gift from humankind. Our ancestors came from Earth. Today, we extend our greetings to all our fellow human beings and friendly races. Long live Earth and humanity."
A golden record popped out, and a man from the Azure Moon bravely took the exquisite treasure. At first, he thought it was a bribe, but after examining it closely, he realized that the unidentified writing and some patterns on it clearly had some deeper meaning.
Then, he turned it over and saw something he would never forget.
It was a view of a human body, and it had a name—Vitruvian Man.
The man from the Blue Moon Sea stared intently at it, as if it were some kind of magic. From a personal perspective, the person in this sculpture was completely different from the "people" he knew and was familiar with, but it seemed that "people" should look like this.
Whether they were people in the caves of those islands or people in the sea, they all had too much more—but the "person" in front of him at this moment was almost perfect. This perfection was a recognition from blood, as if—this is how a person should be.
After a long while, he finally realized what was happening and, muttering to himself, handed the strange object to his superior.
