Chapter 417 Where the Eyes Can See

Chapter 417 Where the Eyes Can See

The Yanjing Galaxy, a name given by the Imperial Emperor, Aegerka Danlex, who, out of personal motives, named this place after his homeland.

The new Yanjing Star slumbers quietly in the swaddling clothes woven from the void—awaiting the arrival of Alice, an unquestionable command, and a new master.

Alice thought and thought, looking at the data on this galaxy—she saw the immigrants on it, with black eyes, black hair, and yellow skin, and she immediately understood everything.

This is a familiar place, though it's not my hometown.

The starship connects with the land. The surface of New Yanjing is not entirely urban; most of it is still natural environment. Rice-growing belts stretch across the continent, and two long rivers divide the entire continent into the south and north.

The starship landed steadily on the ground, and the local civil and military officials bowed in salute—the Imperial Edict Officer had already announced the future of the new Yanjing here—Alice, a name they had never heard of before.

"No need to bow, gentlemen. We've heard that you are officials from the new Yanjing. We still have a lot of work to do."

Besides supplying the empire with large quantities of rice and soldiers, the new Yanjing also had its unique features.

It is the planet with the most rebellions, with countless uprisings each year causing severe economic stagnation. An Imperial counterinsurgency fleet has been stationed there for a long time, and strike weapons launched from orbit continue day and night.

The civil and military officials there already knew that Alice was coming, and when Alice arrived, they immediately imposed military control—one after another T-90M "Breakthrough" tanks were transported to the land, and on the first day of entering the city, an entire armored combined arms brigade was deployed to the administrative center of the new Yanjing—Tianjing City.

Alice did not issue any decrees; she simply used the armed forces she brought to take over the various administrative facilities one by one, from the ground to the tracks.

She held violence in her hands, so she would wield it—the local aristocratic families couldn't fathom the crown prince's thoughts. They had already learned a bit about Alice, a princess, and they prepared priceless jewelry and countless rare treasures for her.

Alice neither accepted them nor asked for them, and she didn't even want to see them. She didn't even stay in Tianjing City for long.

Alice is now standing in a rice paddy—before her stand several people, their skin tanned by the sun, holding weapons.

The unfortunate people looked at Alice, and they vaguely knew that this place had changed hands, to a crown prince they had never met before.

To be honest, they had no feelings for the crown prince, but they knew that their miserable lives were not unrelated to these people in high positions. If it weren't for those sitting in the palace giving orders, how could the rice they worked so hard to grow not be enough to feed their families?

Cargo ships carried away mountains of rice, leaving behind unfortunate people.

"You...you are the crown prince?"

Alice nodded. Behind her were only Rafis Yao and Vera. She looked at the four or five old farmers in front of her, their hunched backs watching Alice warily.

Why did you come here? Aren't you afraid—

They joined the resistance to survive, but they knew that Alice, who stood before them, also knew that they had joined the resistance.

But how can one survive without joining the resistance? The people in the deep mountains will give them ideas and help them, so at least they can live like human beings.

Those people in the capital city are not human; they eat human flesh and blood. If that weren't the case, how could we rice farmers have become like this today?

The rice in the new Yanjing could have fed everyone to the point of being bloated, but they simply couldn't get enough to eat—the grain collection teams came one after another. If you handed over your grain, your family wouldn't be able to afford to eat; if you didn't hand it over, you would be hung up and starved to death in the wind.

The wind blows through the rice paddies, and the golden ears of rice flutter up and down like golden waves—but in this most beautiful place, someone is suffering the deepest pain.

Several figures emerged from the rice paddies—one of them, wearing a straw hat, was exceptionally tall, yet exuded the air of a teacher and student.

"What's going on? Is it the disciplinary team or the grain collection team?"

“Mr. Desheng! Look, isn’t she… isn’t she?”

The tall man saw Alice and suddenly his eyes widened—Alice simply nodded.

“My name is Li Desheng, Miss. I know you. I wonder when the Crown Prince appeared? The news said that the Emperor designated the new Yanjing as your fiefdom.”

Alice nodded and looked at Li Desheng: "We've noticed that rebellions are very frequent on this planet. We want to know why."

Perhaps it was Alice's earnest expression, or what she said, but everyone here felt that Alice was completely different from those fat pigs in Tianjing City.

"But, but, Committee Member Li, she... she... we can't bring her into the base like this!"

Li Desheng looked at Alice, took a deep breath, and said, "Since you want to know why, then come with us, and we will tell you everything about this planet."

Li Desheng looked at the old farmer beside him, who was talking to him in hushed tones. Soon, the old farmer nodded.

After passing through several rice paddies and mountains, Alice entered a cave, where an underground town appeared before her.

"Welcome to our base, Yaodong Town."

Underground, the place was brightly lit, and the people there possessed an unusual vitality; they were full of energy and spirit, unlike the people Alice had seen in and around Tianjing—the decadent rich and the ostentatious nobles…

"Please sit down. Our conditions here are rather basic, Miss Alice. We don't have anything nice to offer you."

“One pot of water is enough, Mr. Desheng.”

Alice looked around at everything; electronic devices gleamed in the darkness. This was a paradise, a little haven.

“Miss Alice, I saw you in Tianjing. You've been in New Yanjing for a few days now. What did you see here?”

Alice paused for a moment, then looked at the muscular man in front of her under the LED lights and said, "It's beautiful here."

Just as someone was about to say something, Alice continued, "But in this most beautiful place, some people are suffering the deepest, deepest pain—mountains of rice are being harvested and labeled as belonging to the powerful and wealthy of Tianjing City, but they don't care at all about you who are toiling under the sun."

“You are different from other hardworking farmers. You see how much the farmers suffer. So you want to fight for a better life for the farmers. You want a revolution, to overthrow those evil people, and to build a new world that belongs to those who work, not those who do not.”

Wherever Alice looked, it was always the same: in every hardship, in every world of mankind, it was always the poor laborers who suffered.

Amidst the astonished gazes of the crowd, Alice slowly recounted everything she had seen—everything she knew.
