Chapter 406 Spell
Chapter 406 Spell
Isane asserts that Aizen brought the lieutenants together and showed them how Kyōka Suigetsu is a water-type Zanpakuto that uses reflections of fog and water to confuse enemies so they kill each other, but Aizen merely smiles, a gesture of cold pride, leading Unohana to realize that this is when he hypnotized everyone, the terrifying truth dawning on her.
Confirming this, Aizen details how Kanzen Saimin disrupts all five senses of its victims and allows them to see whatever he wants, such as a fly as a dragon or a swamp as a flower garden, his voice a masterful, calm explanation of pure psychological terror.
After noting that the spell is activated when a victim sees the release of Kyōka Suigetsu, Aizen elaborates that even seeing it once places victims underneath its hypnotic power, an invisible, spiritual shackle.
As Aizen concludes the hypnotic control returns each time he releases Kyōka Suigetsu, his eyes gleaming with intellectual superiority,
Unohana suddenly picks up on Aizen's mention of seeing the release and is mortified by the implication, a cold realization of her own vulnerability flooding her senses, prompting Aizen to deduce what has just occurred to her and affirm the spell will not work against a blind person since it must be seen in order to function before revealing 9th Division Captain Kaname Tosen has been working for him from the very beginning, a final, shocking betrayal.
…
At the same time, in a different part of the Seireitei, as Renji runs through the streets with Rukia in his arm, the weight of her presence a constant, desperate reminder of his failure, he is confronted by Tosen, and as a surprised Renji questions what he is doing here, his voice tight with confusion, Tosen begins spinning a long cloth around them, weaving a web of darkness.
With Renji confused by this sudden, strange maneuver, Gin performs the same maneuver around himself and Aizen, who takes a moment to praise Unohana for examining his fake body far more thoroughly than anyone else did because feeling even a bit of suspicion while under the effects of Kanzen Saimin is most remarkable, his pride wounded by her near-discovery.
With Aizen bidding them farewell and stating that he will likely never see them again while Isane attempts to attack, her Kido too slow and too weak to stop them, he and Gin vanish in a burst of light, leaving behind only the shimmering, lingering Reiatsu of their malice.
Renji finds himself kneeling with Rukia on Sokyoku Hill after Tosen stops spinning the cloth, the ground hard and cold beneath his knees, and as he wonders what this is all about, the ominous structure of the execution stand towering over them.
Aizen appears behind Renji with Gin and welcomes him, his voice laced with mocking amusement, and then glances at Renji ordered, "Put her down and you can leave. You've been a good dog; now go."
Renji Abarai holds Rukia Kuchiki in his arm, the collar around her neck a painful symbol of her imprisonment, and begins to express his shock at seeing Aizen alive, the truth fighting his desire to escape, only to decide against it and focus on the latter's request, which he does not understand, his mind a whirl of desperate loyalty.
"Why are you looking at me like that, you must have heard me just now. Don't test my patience." Aizen asserted and walked forward and stood in front of him, his Zanpakuto a silent, gleaming threat in his hand.
While Aizen reiterates his instructions for Renji to leave Rukia here and run away, his words dripping with cold command,
Inside the Central 46 Compound, 4th Division Lieutenant Isane Kotetsu kneels before her captain, Retsu Unohana, and draws a seal on the ground before performing Bakudō #58. Kakushitsuijaku, her spiritual energy focused entirely on one point, allowing her to locate Aizen and the others on Sokyoku Hill, their Reiatsu signatures burning bright in her mind.
Upon learning this, Unohana glanced at her and instructed her, her gaze intense with purpose,
"Inform all captains and lieutenants everything about Aizen as well as his location, and also inform those Ryoka as well. The whole of the Seireitei must know the truth."
Unohana ascends the platform and states that she is counting on Isane to do this while she does her best to save 10th Division Captain Toshiro Hitsugaya and 5th Division Lieutenant Momo Hinamori as she draws her Zanpakuto, a faint, restorative glow already radiating from her.
Behind Unohana, Isane draws angled patterns on her arms and hands before making several seals as she performs Bakudō #77. Tenteikūra, her spirit humming with the effort, which connects her to the minds of Ichigo Kurosaki, Yasutora Sado, Uryū Ishida, and all the other captains, lieutenants, and seated officers around the Seireitei, broadcasting the horrifying truth.
Addressing the combatants, Isane identifies herself and requests that they heed this urgent message from herself and Unohana, her voice an immaterial echo in their minds, fraught with desperation.
…
At present,
After Isane finishes relaying her message, the head captain Yamamoto's footsteps halt, the very ground seeming to tremble under the shockwave of the broadcast truth, and then his brow furrows tightly, the lines of his aged face deepening with cold, volcanic anger, looking in the direction of Sokyoku Hill.
Elsewhere, 10th Division Lieutenant Rangiku Matsumoto leaps across the rooftops, the doubled weight of her Zanpakuto finally gone, and refuses to believe Hitsugaya lost, her heart aching with worry, leaving 3rd Division Lieutenant Izuru Kira to lean against a crater and express shock, a flicker of genuine humanity returning to his eyes, at Gin going back on his word of not hurting Hinamori while 7th Division Lieutenant Tetsuzaemon Iba and 11th Division 3rd Seat Ikkaku Madarame are stunned by Central 46 being murdered, the news sending a chilling ripple of disbelief through the Seireitei.
