Chapter 50 Pet Essay
Chapter 50 Pet Essay
In a vibrant and joyful school, Li Shiqing and Liu Yixin, two best friends, are facing a special task assigned by their Chinese teacher—to write an essay titled "I Have an Animal".
"Hey, Shiqing, what animal are you planning to write about?" Liu Yixin shook her head and asked Li Shiqing curiously.
"Well, I want to write about my mischievous yet adorable kitten, named Mengmeng. It's so funny!" Li Shiqing's eyes sparkled with affection for the kitten.
"Haha, I'm going to write about my dog, Tiaotiao. That guy is always bouncing around, like he's got springs in his body," Liu Yixin replied with a laugh.
After school, the two went home and began their essay writing journey.
Li Shiqing sat at her desk, resting her chin on her hand as she began to brainstorm. "Hmm, the little cat Mengmeng, first I have to write about its super soft fur, like a cloud." She muttered to herself as she wrote in her notebook, "And its big eyes, so green and bright, like two mysterious gems. Every time it stares at me, I feel like it's talking to me."
Meanwhile, Liu Yixin was playing with her dog, Tiaotiao, trying to find more inspiration for her writing from Tiaotiao's lively energy. "Tiaotiao, stop running around! Let me observe you properly. Look at you, you eat like you're starving every time you eat. I'll have to write that in my essay. And also, you're always chasing your tail in circles. Do you think it's some kind of super toy?"
The next day, in Chinese class, the teacher said with a smile, "Class, have you all finished writing the compositions you were assigned yesterday? Today, we'll have a few students share their compositions and their animal friends with everyone. Who wants to go first?"
Li Shiqing raised her hand high, and after the teacher nodded, she skipped and hopped onto the podium. "Hello everyone, the animal I'm writing about is my kitten, Mengmeng. My Mengmeng is such a lazybones; she loves to find all sorts of comfortable places to nap all day long. Once, I searched for her for ages but couldn't find her, and guess what? She was actually in my closet, sleeping on top of a pile of my clothes, curled up into a fluffy ball! I almost didn't even notice her."
The students were all amused. Li Shiqing continued, "It's also very affectionate. Every time I come home from school, it runs over and rubs against my legs, meowing incessantly, as if saying, 'Master, you're finally back! I've missed you so much!' If I ignore it, it jumps onto my desk and stomps on my notebooks until I hug it. That's my cute and mischievous little cat, Mengmeng. Isn't it funny?"
After Li Shiqing finished speaking, enthusiastic applause rang out from the audience.
Then, Liu Yixin also went up to the podium. "Hi, classmates, I wrote about my dog, Tiaotiao. My dog Tiaotiao is a real troublemaker. Its favorite game is to carry its little rag doll around and swing it back and forth, as if it's having a fierce battle with the doll. Once, it was playing too wildly and threw the doll directly at my face, which stunned me. It, on the other hand, was wagging its tail next to me, as if it was laughing at me."
The students laughed so hard they were doubled over. Liu Yixin continued, "Tiaotiao is quite a coward. Once, we went for a walk and encountered a little bug. It was so scared that it immediately hid behind me, trembling uncontrollably. It made me laugh so hard. But even though it's timid, it's incredibly loyal to me. Whenever a stranger approaches me, it barks incessantly, like a brave little guardian. That's my dog, Tiaotiao. I love its mischievousness, its timidity, and its loyalty."
After Liu Yixin finished speaking, the classroom erupted in laughter and applause once again.
"Me! Me!" Impatient Zhao Xiaoyang was the first to raise his hand. The teacher nodded, and he bounced up to the podium like a spring. "Classmates, I wrote about a little hamster, and I named it 'Rolling.' Why that name? Because it's round and chubby, like a fluffy little ball of flesh, rolling around in its cage all day long." Zhao Xiaoyang said, gesturing wildly as he spoke.
"This little hamster is so greedy. Once, I put a handful of sunflower seeds in its cage, and it grabbed them with its little paws and ate them so fast, its cheeks puffed up like two little balloons. I thought it was funny, so I wanted to tease it and moved the sunflower seeds a little further away. Hey, guess what? It widened its eyes and its little whiskers twitched, as if to say: 'You stingy little thing, give me back the sunflower seeds!' As soon as I let go, it pounced on it, but it couldn't stop in time and tumbled over in the cage. It looked so funny."
The students burst into laughter at Zhao Xiaoyang's description, and the classroom was filled with cheerful laughter.
Then, the gentle Lin Yue stood up and walked lightly to the podium. "I wrote about a little rabbit, its name is ''. Because its fur is snow-white and feels so soft to the touch." Lin Yue's voice was like a gentle spring breeze.
"She's a super vain little princess. Every morning, she licks her fur and grooms herself impeccably. Once, I put a pink bow on her, and she was so happy she bounced around in her cage all day. But she can be naughty too. Once, I took her to play on the lawn, and she saw a little flower. Like she was under a spell, she jumped over and started sniffing and nibbling at it, making a huge mess of it. Then she looked at me innocently, as if to say, 'This flower smells so good, I couldn't resist!'"
Everyone was charmed by the adorable little rabbit Lin Yue described, and exclamations of admiration filled the classroom.
At this moment, Wang Dali, the class's "little cowboy," stood up and strode onto the podium. "I wrote about my family's old ox, named 'Dahuang.' Dahuang is very strong and a master at plowing the fields," Wang Dali said in a thick local accent.
“Every time we went to work in the fields, Dahuang worked especially hard. It would lower its head, pull the plow, and walk steadily step by step. Once, I was holding the plow behind it and accidentally fell. Dahuang immediately stopped, turned around and looked at me, mooed twice, as if to say, ‘Young man, what happened? Are you alright?’ Its eyes were full of concern. However, Dahuang also had a little problem, which was that it was very greedy. Once, it secretly ran into the neighbor’s vegetable garden and ate all the vegetables. When the neighbor came to the door, my dad took out a whip to scare it, and it hid behind me, looking at me pitifully, like a child who had done something wrong.”
Wang Dali's narration made the students feel as if they could see the honest, kind, and slightly mischievous old ox, and the classroom was filled with laughter.
Finally, the slow-paced Sun Xiao leisurely walked up to the podium. "I wrote about a little turtle named 'Manman' (meaning 'slowly'). The name suits it perfectly; it does everything slowly."
"When it slowly crawls up, its four little legs move leisurely, like it's doing Tai Chi. Once, I put it on the table so it could sunbathe. But it didn't crawl very far for ages, and I almost fell asleep waiting. So I gently poked it with a twig to try and get it to hurry up. It just tucked its head back into its shell and ignored me. Only when I stopped poking it did it slowly peek out again and continue its 'tortoise-like journey.' Another time, I fed it meat, and the meat was right next to its mouth, but it couldn't get it to its mouth for ages. I was getting anxious for it. But although it's slow, it's incredibly persistent. Once, it accidentally rolled over and landed on its back. It struggled and struggled for a long time before finally rolling back over. I should learn from that spirit."
Sun Xiao's words made the students laugh until they almost cried.
After all the students had finished sharing, the teacher walked to the podium, a pleased smile on her face. "Students, your sharing today was fantastic! Through your descriptions, we felt as if we had met a group of adorable and interesting animal friends. This is the charm of writing; it can convey the beauty and joy of our lives to everyone. I hope you will write many more vivid and interesting compositions like this in the future."
