Chapter 1937: Sky of Corpses (1)
Before High Lord Rashal, the plan was still a mess, as there were still too many variables.
It also doesn’t help when the realm is quite big, and their number is not nearly enough to cover the entire thing. Rex and the Red Skull Elite Force had to take a smarter approach—but even then, they still could not agree on a solid plan.
But now, with the certainty from High Lord Rashal’s intel, the plan became stable.
High Millinar Alexander, now certain of Rex’s capabilities as High Lord Rashal respected him, decided to let Rex deal with the inhabitants of the Grey Realm as he requested. Rex is going to be the one who’d trick the enemy forces, making them think that the Red Skull Elite Force was focused on keeping all of the realm’s inhabitants safe.
As for the rest of the Red Skull Elite Force—they would remain hidden near the northern and southern divine sources.
Staying in the shadows to wait for the enemy forces to make a move first.
Naturally, this can only be possible if the person doing it is incredibly capable and quick, as Alexander could only spare a few soldiers while retaining the certainty of winning against the enemy forces when a direct clash happened.
Rex was both of those things, so this plan is plausible.
In the Grey Realm, there are four greater continents—with the central continent being where they were right now. Even though covering several continents is preferable, there’s simply not enough soldiers that Rex could use to do that.
He was hoping that protecting the central continent, the continent with the most superpowers, would be enough to make the enemy forces think that the Red Skull Elite Force guessed their moves wrong. But right now, Alexander was getting impatient.
Earlier, his original plan was to vacate the divine sources and fend off the enemy forces.
But Rex didn’t like that plan.
Not only would the Red Skull Elite Force be split between vacating the divine sources and battling, but that would also give the enemy the opportunity to strike first. It would also take a few straight days for them to vacate the divine sources.
And since the enemy forces came faster than expected, this was the better plan.
Rex and Alexander made the right choice.
But Alexander still wanted to vacate the divine sources bit by bit instead of staying in the shadows doing nothing. And that’s going to be a problem if he ran out of patience, which was why Rex needed to make haste right now.
Swoosh—!
Rex was sprinting with all his might, swallowing the distance with incredible speed.
Lilliana, tell Davina to mark the unsettled locations! And also prepare the display now.
’Okay, wait a second. It’s still her first time enveloping an entire continent like this.’
It’s okay, but don’t take too long.
Rex continued on running with the Primordial Step—Voidal Moonflow Acceleration skill to boost, the red force and black lightning to enhance his speed even further. Under many effects, when he ran, the night ran with him.
At such a speed, the world became a smear of ink and silver; terrain devoured in ravenous gulps.
Dead forest, then ravine, then rocky scarp.
Each swallowed whole before his feet could name them.
An animalistic excitement howled in his blood, not through but pure emotion—the primal ecstasy of a predator completely unbound. When the land betrayed him with a chasm too wide, he simply stopped being flesh.
His Pneuma Spell, Ether Blink, wreathed him in a shriek of ozone, and he became a lightning strike.
And without sacrificing speed at all, he reformed on the far side.
Mountains, rivers, cracks on the earth—the Grey Realm’s poverty of path meant nothing.
Rex ate distance like a wolf eating sheep; easy to hunt and delicious to eat.
Not to mention, this was his first time being in a realm like this.
Its level of energy was low, lower than even the Mortal Realm, but the space within it is really stable.
That was the sole reason Rex could wield abilities that should have shredded the dimensional fabric by now. More than that, the presence of divine strands—from the divine sources had altered the ambient energy into something far more versatile, which was why Rex could invoke the Voidal Moonflow Acceleration even in a realm completely devoid of voidal energy.
Rex found this realm magical.
And within its confines, he could truly let loose without needing to fear breaking something.
Feeling the stars above were winking, flickering to draw his attention, Rex looked up and saw there were more than a dozen stars blinking above. Some were spectacular silver, while some had a tinge of green, which was quite unnatural to see.
It didn’t ned that long for him to understand that this was the signal from Davina.
’Rex, the silver stars are settled, and the greenish stars are unsettled!’ Lilliana’s voice rang again.
Frankly, Rex expected Davina to take a longer time to get accustomed to her situation.
He had been planning to seek out the King gin Blue—a monster George remembered hearing whispered in his teenage years. One of the oldest monsters in the entire realm. The rumours painted it as a colossal beast dwelling deep within the Aqua Forest, far to the north of the central continent.
Rex had been heading there.
But Davina’s signal had already come through, and he changed course without hesitation.
One foot in front planted heavily against the ground, and with a turn, Rex made a sharp, powerful turn.
It was a race against time.
Alexander’s patience, and there were still six more unsettled Demigods on the continent. Six more people Rex needed to kill—before he could wipe the entire continent clean of the invaders. Six more before he could finish the collection.
Perhaps there are still more, but six is more than enough.
Judging by how quickly the enemy Demigods were advancing—their goal was clear: start seizing all three divine sources before the night ended. But like Alexander, they needed time to do that. Assuming that they have a special tool to do that, it would still take hours.
Days to fully accomplish what they were after if they didn’t have that kind of equipment.
And since High Lord Rashal’s evaluation was coming soon, they needed to make a move now.
Just that they need a little encouragement, and Rex could give them that.
"No more pulling back."
Rex’s body convulsed, bones cracking and reshaping into something entirely inhuman. A low, baritone snarl rumbled from his throat. His spine arched downward—until he was sprinting on all fours, moving even faster than he was a second ago.
Every muscle coiled with lethal purpose.
Across his frame, natural weapons emerged—claws, fangs, inhuman strength.
All of them designed for one thing: to kill.
He fixed his eyes on a nearby greenish star and picked up his pace.
Dozens of miles away.
Clang—!
A crescent blade sang a silver arc toward the cloaked figure’s throat, and met only the wooden shaft of a spear that was thick, made out of sturdy material, and infused with energy to the point that even steel wouldn’t be able to cut through it.
Steel shrieked, and the figure in the blue cloak twisted the shaft with a snap of the wrists.
He deflected the sword wide, and without pausing, he vaulted backward.
It was a smooth and fast move—cloak billowed and boots skidded the barren earth as he reclaimed the spear’s natural dominion. Distance. The red-skulled man lunged instantly, a wolf closing the gap as he knew that at a longer distance, wielding a sword would be his downfall.
As an elite soldier, he knew that he couldn’t let the enemy have an advantage.
His sword was angled for the kill.
But the figure knew what the red-skulled man was about to do.
A blast of energy pushed him forward as he thrust his spear forward with incredible speed and precision.
Reacting swiftly, the red-skulled man caught the spear’s wooden shaft and let his body follow the entire momentum that brought him back. Had he not done that—his chest would’ve been impaled by now, but he was fortunately too alert to let this surprise attack kill him.
Just then, the figure smirked, "Minor Law of Flesh Magnet."
Splash—!
Out of nowhere, the spear blurred as the air around its point distorted and bent.
Before the red-skulled man could react, the spearhead suddenly punched through with surprising power, piercing through his sternum. Through the heart. Through the spine. It erupted from his back, splashing blood and gore outward.
And the spearhead detonated with white energy that carved a trench across the barren land.
It shattered a mountain in the far distance like a hammer through glass.
"For an elite soldier, you underestimated me," the cloaked figure snarled, watching the red-skulled man struggle on the tip of his spearhead. But with the heart exploded, and energy ransacking the inside, there is no chance the red-skulled man could survive. "You killed two of us and thought you could defeat me? A big mistake."
"Raarghk!!" the red-skulled man squealed in pain.
His body was hauled from the ground as the cloaked figure lifted up the spear and pointed it skyward.
Blood sluiced down the shaft in thick, arterial ropes, painting his gauntlets black in the starlight.
For a moment, the red-skulled man twitched—a grotesque ornament.
His limbs dangled, and then, with a savage thrust, the cloaked figure launched him skyward.
Before gravity could claim the red-skulled man, the spear cleaved horizontally in a perfect stroke. Then, the red-skulled man’s body came apart in two wet halves. Each one tumbled into the ground with a dull thud.
Victoriously, the cloaked figure spun his spear left and right, cleaning it from blood like an expert.
"Killing a soldier—from the Red Skull Elite Force... I never thought I would manage to do it tonight," He muttered inwardly, happy that he somehow could kill one Demigod from the enemy forces. It was more than he was hoping for. "Maybe I can kill more."
Having learned the Minor Law of Flesh Magnet, he attained another trump card.
It allowed the body of an enemy to attract anything he held.
And in this case, it was his spear.
A power that could catch anyone off guard; provided the enemy lacked unnatural defensive abilities or speed enough to react to a point-blank strike. He shook off the lingering euphoria—and turned his gaze toward the kingdom where he had been sent to sow chaos.
Just as he was about to move, however, his eyes caught sight of an odd light coming from above.
A star was directing its light towards him like he was a performer on stage.
It had a greenish tinge, which was quite odd.
And the light was blinding enough to make him shield his eyes using his arm.
"What’s with this star?" He thought aloud. "Why is it pointing its light onto me?"
Deciding to run away from it, fearing that it might be one of the Red Skull Elite Force’s shenanigans, he sprinted toward the kingdom’s direction. But after a few steps, the air suddenly became heavy to the point of hindering his movements.
His instincts were immediately alerted.
Then, he saw something coming from his right with a speed at least three times faster than him.
It was a shadow.
Blitz—!
From the sky, a black lightning strike descended, and the shadow that was heading towards him simply vanished without a trace. Dread gripped his heart, and as he looked skyward, he saw the same lightning strike descending straight at him with rippling thunder.
Before he could do anything, the shadow already reached him.
And the cloaked man stopped and collapsed into three pieces, sliced from the peak of his head, straight to the crotch. Crimson energy rippled around him and kept his corpse intact right before his eyes rolled back, dead.
Rex continued to the next greenish star with murder in his eyes, "One."
