Chapter 1142 - 796: Warship Port
The coastline of the Tariel Continent finally appeared clearly before everyone’s eyes. However, it seemed quite different from the legends.
It was not like the dreamy lushness of the Elf Magic Forest, nor was it the expansive, fertile pastoral scene of the Human Kingdom.
What greeted the eyes was a world of primitive wildness and twisted chaos, deeply unsettling.
Near the shore was an undulating, peculiar forest.
The trees were unnaturally tall, and their growth seemed bizarrely chaotic, lacking the order and nature of how trees should grow.
Many thick branches twisted and intertwined, appearing in rusty dark brown or ink green, with massive tree crowns blocking large portions of the sky, where the light was sparse and murky.
The forest was not silent; one could vaguely see many massive shadows swiftly moving and disappearing, accompanied by the occasional dull roar or sharp screech from unidentifiable creatures.
The air was filled with a blend of decaying plant scent, strong earthy musk, and some omnipresent smell resembling wet sulfur mixed with copper rust—the scent of Chaos Magic Power, inhaling which caused a slight burning pain in the lungs.
This ghastly place made one feel physically uncomfortable at first sight, especially for the adventurers.
Beyond the forest, at the far-off inland horizon, the towering outlines loomed indistinctly.
These were not natural mountains but sharply defined, fractured and collapsed massive stone structures like remnants of some ancient sky-piercing towers or lost temple ruins, shrouded in thin mist, emitting a desolate and ominous aura.
More shocking was the skyward creatures—their wingspan easily several times that of the largest griffin; they flew with a ferocious glide defying physics, with grotesque forms, either armored with thick bone plates or trailing long tattered wing membranes, silently circling high above like sentinels released by this dying land.
The whole world seemed to be enveloped by an invisible, suffocating frenzy energy field.
"My beard..."
Silver Dwarf Durik was leaning at the ship’s railing, looking at the shore, mumbling to himself, almost dropping the ore he held.
"This place... even the stones seem to want to smash faces."
The fleet slowly anchored at a distance away from the perilous shore.
The adventurers peered over the side, gazing at the land shrouded in the breath of death.
"See that? The wooden walls by the sea? That’s the territory of the vanguard troops."
Honestly, it looked quite rudimentary and didn’t match the usual image of the Night Watchers.
A human adventurer pointed to the simple frontline, then his attention was caught by the heap of Giant Beast corpses piled under the short wall.
"Good heavens! What are those creatures?! Lizard and wild boar hybrids? And covered with so many spikes!"
The Beastman Warrior beside him licked his tusks: "Looks tough. Better than the hardheads in the sea."
Bragging.
If not for the surprising scene below that amazed many adventurers, someone beside him would have surely mocked him.
During the sea battle earlier, he certainly didn’t display the bravery he claimed.
The elderly Elf Mage Lia sniffed sharply, frowning: "It’s not just the stench of blood... There’s something... foul in the air, so thick it’s suffocating."
"The land itself harbors hostility toward life." Her words made several perceptive adventurers instinctively rub their throbbing temples.
However, this was already anticipated, as the Night Watchers had emphasized this point very clearly.
Everything on the Tariel Continent was dangerous, made aggressive by chaos, past wars, and last year’s evil influence.
Hog, holding his axe, impatiently stomped the deck: "Who cares! When do I get to go down and enjoy a good fight? Surely we’re not gonna paddle a small boat over to that mess of flesh?"
"I’ve been prepared for this since I got here."
"Yeah, yeah, no risk, no reward."
"Looks scary, but we’re in this line of work, what’s there to be afraid of?"
"Right, opening up this place is better than fighting those damned nobles’ wars."
"At least the Night Watchers are better than those damned nobles, aren’t they?"
"Haha, well said brother."
Just as everyone was discussing, thinking the next step would be to jump into small boats, withstand beast attacks to reach the shore, and then join the island’s advance troops to slowly build a camp,
An unexpected situation arose that would etch deeply into the minds of all adventurers present, even the Night Watchers would remember it clearly.
This was a different kind of beauty the Night Watchers displayed to others.
Not just sheer scale, not merely grandeur.
The flagship of the entire expedition fleet—the Expeditioner, that massive silhouette, suddenly moved.
A deep and force-filled command transmitted through the fleet’s communication, the vibration felt even through the ship’s hull.
No doubt it was Dwarf Sage Lurik: "Expeditioner! Beach assault! Maximum speed! Activate armor lock! Shield focus on the ship’s bow!"
"Huh?!"
The whole shipload discussing disembarkation tactics was instantly bewildered.
They could see clearly as this gigantic warship was right at the forefront of the fleet.
"What’s he doing? Going to ram into it?!"
"The water isn’t deep enough! The keel will get smashed!"
"Old Stony must be drunk?!"
Though Lurik was among the more open-minded dwarves, personality-wise, mixed with the Kana people, not as rigid as typical dwarves.
